Charlotte's WEND radio station will hold its sixth annual end of summer Weenie Roast celebration on Saturday at the Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte.
Raleigh band Jam Pain Society will be one of four bands to play on the sold-out celebration's "90-minute" stage.
Vocalist Leah Kirby, guitarist Chris Hill, drummer Nick Campbell and bassist Tony Miller will perform a 30-minute set- a set that Ms. Kirby says will include C'mon Get Heavy and some new tunes.
"When its cut down to 30 minutes, it's good in that how can you go wrong with thirty minutes? But it's bad in that we're going 'what are we going to cut?'" Ms. Kirby said.
The 90-minute stage is a take-off of WEND's local show on Sunday nights hosted by on-air personality, Charley.
JPS will be the last band to lay the 90-minute stage. The first band plays there at 11 a.m. JPS hits the stage at 1:30 p.m. "It's definitely a good way to be heard and to be seen, and to see a ton of other people that I've wanted to see. I'm really excited. It's a good way for people to get a taste of what we're like," Ms. Kirby said.
Ms. Kirby describes JPS performances as energetic, kind of flashy, but emotional on a certain level. The music focuses on aggression, pop and good rock.
JPS finds fun in dressing p in all that shines and sparkles. "That's what we believe is entertainment. Not to the point of fakeness, but fun. I just like seeing someone getting into what they're doing."
And different people get into things in different ways and for us it's visual," Ms. Kirby explains.
"The entertainment part of our show is not just to play cool music; it's to entertain you visually as well, but not in a silly way."
Ms. Kirby says the JPS show is "an arena rock show in a club setting," completing the effect with cool lights and props.
"We work our butts off to make sure that it's like nothing you've ever seen before at club level," Ms. Kirby said.
"Granted we don't have major label-type cash behind us. Even so, you'll be entertained in a way that you're not usually entertained."
The band plays tonight in Raleigh and will travel to Charlotte to set up at the Roast by 10 a.m. tomorrow.
The celebration is sold out, but information about the event can be found at WEND's web site, www.1065.com.
